Music in Schools

The first part of this program focuses on some of the elite music schooling of the world, the tradition of English cathedral and collegiate choir schools. Portions of a soundtrack from "King's College Choir: A Documentary" describe the tradition in depth. This is followed by a section of then-and-now recordings of three choristers from the English tradition who went on to make musical careers as adults: Roy Goodman, Robert Chilcott, and Robert King.

The final portion of this program returns to the Stanford area, with a rebroadcast of the February 13, 1995 segment of Keep Your Head Up!, a KZSU public affairs program which periodically reappears. This edition of Keep Your Head Up! covers the Cesar Chavez Middle School (East Palo Alto) band, and their teenage tutors from Gunn High School in Palo Alto. Both middle and high schoolers talk about their musical interests and aspirations.
