The BBC Proms series representative piece this week is from Prom 25, Edward Elgar's Falstaff symphonic study.

In commemoration of the birth of conductor and bassist Serge Koussevitzky (July 26, 1874), his Concerto for double bass and orchestra is included in the first hour of this program. The birthday of William Schuman (August 4, 1910, composer and first president of the Juilliard School) is observed also.
