Mixed Up Class Playlist, July 24, 2000

The BBC Proms series continues, and the representative piece this week is from Prom 17, Mahler's Kindertotenlieder. An historic recording by Kathleen Ferrier is selected for this broadcast.

As crumb of history, July 24, 1940 is sometimes called "DJ Liberation Day" because it broadcasts of recorded music were recognized as legal in spite of the perceived threat to musicians' livelyhoods. In recognition of this day, a 1947 recording by Burl Ives and the Andrews Sisters rounds out this program.
