February 6: Of Angels, Part I

The programming is a reference to the interest in angels held by Amber Rose Hendry, a friend's daughter who joined the angels on this day in 1994. Or so we suppose; such is the nature of human knowing. Because Palo Alto City Council ran to 11:10 PM, this show is continued on the program of February 13, 1995.

The Nunc dimittis of Herbert Sumsion is intended as a hail and farewell to Vernon Schabert, departing announcer for KZSU's PACC broadcasts. Vince Larkin replaces Vern in future PACC broadcasts.

The score for Alban Berg's Violin Concerto contains an inscription, "To the memory of an angel", generally accepted as a memorial dedication to the 18-year-old daughter of Gustav and Anna Mahler. The second movement performed here contains a direct quote from the Bach chorale setting, Es ist genug, so we include a rendition of it to prepare the listener's ear.
