December 4, 2000: St. Nicholas

In observance of the feast day appointed for St. Nicholas (6 December) the third hour of this program presents narratives of Nicholas to place the modern symbol of Christmas, gift exchange, and commercialism into a larger historical context.

Also commemorated is the birthday of Jean Sibelius (8 December 1865).
