Mixed Up Class Playlist, August 2, 1999

The third hour of this program contains several selections accompanied by Gerald Moore, born on July 30, 1899. Moore is perhaps the first and greatest pianist to make his reputation as an accompanist rather than as a soloist.

Also, Samuel Sanders, another prominent accompanist, very recently deceased, is commemorated.

Other music with commemorative undertones include selections from Fauré's Requiem, Tavener's "Song for Athene", and Howells's "Take him, earth, for cherishing", originally commissioned in memory of President John F. Kennedy in 1964.
