The birthday of Edward Elgar (2 June 1857) is observed by playing several selections from his oeuvre. The Coronation Ode is particularly seasonal because it employs the music of Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1, commonly used as processional music during graduation ceremonies.
