February 16, 1999: Carnival

In the church calendar, this day immediately precedes Lent, the 40-day season of fasting and reflection that leads to the feast of Easter. Hence there are some traditions of conspicuous pleasure, including Mardi Gras ("Fat Tuesday"). Hence, a few carnival connections are visited in the final hour of this program.
