Mixed Up Class Playlist, 4/10/95

Mixed Up Class moves to the 6AM to 9AM slot, and Romain has to learn how to function in the morning...

On April 10, 1912, the R.M.S. Titanic set out on her maiden voyage, which would end in the early morning hours of April 15 with the ship beneath the waves and some of the elite of European society and leadership with her. In commemoration of the Titanic disaster, two of the many musical works inspired by the event are included in this program: Joseph Bonnet's In Memoriam: Titanic, written very shortly afterward, and Gavin Bryars's The Sinking of the Titanic, an evolving piece that Bryars has been working on since 1969; the Bryars recording presents the piece in its 1994 form.

J.S. Bach's humorous secular cantata, known as the "Coffee Cantata", comes near the end of the program, as a salute to Kara Whacked's show, Hot Coffee and a Full Tank of Gas, which now airs immediately after Mixed Up Class.
