The History of the Dollar Bin:

There's not much to it, but just in case you were interested. Here are some notes and a list of good albums that have come out during the history of The Dollar Bin. I will add notes about the albums as I feel like it.

List of the Best recordings of 2000

Summer, 1999

The Dollar Bin began life as "Hard Bop Groove", Tuesday mornings from 3 AM to 6AM. This slot followed Blind Joe Death's show playing various forms of American music (Mostly KFOG and 80's style Live 105 type stuff) and preceeded Mostly Tamil with Sutha--a really fine show about Indian music with an emphasis on film music. Hard Bop Groove was basically the same as the Dollar Bin except that we played a lot more Jazz and more straight Hip-hop and the theme song was 'El Galleton' by Tempo 70--a smokin bit of Latin funk. Also in the middle of the night we could play some really out there stuff. Not too many listeners except for the guy who would always call in and request some Tupac if we played any Hip-hop. Some good records from that quarter: (in no particular order; asterix for especially good stuff, two or more for great stuff)

**Dirty Dozen Brass Band "Buck Jump"
*Barry Adamson "The Murky World of Barry Adamson"
Thievery Corp "DJ Kicks"
Smoke City's 'O Cara Lindo' from "Red Hot + Lisbon"
Los Super Seven
Royal Crown Revue "Walk on Fire"
"The New Latinaries"
"No Categories 2"

Fall, 1999

Hard Bop Groove continued, this time Sunday Nights from Midnight to 3 AM, after Nubian Roots with Cat who played all forms of creative jazz. More of the same that quarter, not too much to say. Some good records:

**Plena Libre "Juntos y Revueltos"
"Soul Ecstasy Soundtrack"
Odean Pope Trio "Ebioto"
Trevor Adamson 'Nyanpi Matilda' from "World Playground"

Winter, 2000

Ah, a new year and a new show name--"The Dollar Bin" with the Dead Kenny-Gs was born. We were on the air Thursdays 11AM to 2PM, after "Trip Over Zero" with Benjie, a show with lots of chill electronic grooves from around the world and a good show to follow.
