Hello Geri! I am obviously a big fan of yours.....I have passed your biography from this site to Joe Luciano in New Haven, CT who is doing a series of articles about women in jazz.....yours would be the highlight of the article indeed! He has published the first installment in this month's Green Mountain Jazz Messenger. By the way, you performed with Wallace here in the Black Hills several years ago....I loved the performance and marveled at your abilities......I was on the Arts Council Jazz Committee at that time and had access back stage.....I did manage to get Wallace's autograph, would it be too much trouble to send me one of your b&w promo photos with your autograph? I will have a frame and a place of honor on my wall if you would be so kind! I love your version of one of my favorite songs "Lullabye of the Leaves" Keep swingin' Fred

i've become more than enthralled with Geri's trio recordings with Charlie Haden and Paul Motian. this definately is some of the most creative trio music i've come across in years. go out of your way to find some of these recordings and share them with a friend. my only hope is that more will become available in the future so there will be more to enjoy. thanks

Dear Geri: Weeks ago, I found this tape labeled "Etudes" that I'd been listening to quite often years ago. This was a great re-discovery of something I thought being lost. The more I listen to it now, the deeper it gets. It is such a grand compound of hope, sadness, proudness and love, and still relates to "tradition" as well. Your playing is giving me so much! Thank you for being around. --Marius

Hi Geri; I love your playing and have most of your CDs. But what I want to inquire about is how I might gain access to some of Wallace Roney's charts. And some of your compositions. I can learn a lot by just lead sheets and chord changes. This helps me break new ground harmonically. I'm a guitar player, so concert sheets is all I would need. Thank you, George GRoess2000@aol.com

I just saw Geri and the Wallace Roney quintet tonight at a little San Francisco club called Storeyville. There were maybe 20 of us in the audience. She, and the whole group, were unbelievable. Like having Bill Evans play in your living room. Sort of a disgrace to SF though, to have them playing to such a tiny audience. Storeyville does not do *any* advertising -- *none* -- appears unbelievably badly managed, but it's the second time she's played there so perhaps she'll return yet again. So keep your eyes open if you live in the Bay Area (they're usually listed in the fine print jazz calendars in the Bay Guardian or Sunday pink section). Their baby (maybe two years?) was on stage with her in a stroller for a while, swinging his head to the music and singing along; I think she has another on the way. Anyhow, what a privilege to be in the audience for this; I'm a fan for life.

Listening as I write to Geri's gorgeous exploration (with Charnett Moffett) on "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" from Ornette's "Sound Museum Three Woman." Geri, the colors in your universe must be tuned to super vivid, super bright. Thank you for the music ... and, in advance, for the music to come.

I went to Howard University from 91 to 95. I graduated with a degree (B.S.) in Psychology but I minored in Music Therapy. I used to always see Ms. Allen's office but never saw her in it, however, I was blessed to have seen her perform at the chapel on campus. My friend Cherie Mitchell used to always talk about what a great professor and musician Ms. Allen was (and still is, I'm sure). I wish I had been able to study under her, what a thrill that must have been!!! I'm a starving artist (singer/songwriter/some keys) and it is real inspirtation to see women such as Geri doin' their thang!!! I hope to follow in her footsteps (except not jazz, but alter- native/r&b) and maybe I too can be an inspiration to young women to follow.
