(December 20, 2006) FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE KZSU 90.1FM COMMEMORATES 60 YEARS OF STANFORD RADIO January 4th-January 6th, 2007 STANFORD, CA -- KZSU-FM, the radio station of Stanford University, will mark its 60th anniversary with an unprecedented 60-hour music marathon. For each year of its existence, KZSU will play one hour of music representing that year, with KZSU disc jockeys past and present uniting to select the tunes and provide commentary. This historic radio event will begin at 12:00 noon on Thursday, January 4th, and continue until 11:59PM on Saturday, January 6th. The first hour of the marathon will feature music from 1947, the year KZSU--then known as KSU--first began broadcasting. Sixty hours later, the marathon will conclude with music from 2006. Approximately 9.01 minutes into each hour, the station will play a "Hit of the Year" selected by the DJs. KZSU broadcasts at 90.1FM from studios in Memorial Auditorium on the Stanford University campus. Operating with a noncommercial educational license, KZSU is run by Stanford students and members of the local community. "Throughout its 60-year history, KZSU has provided innovative musical programming, coverage of Stanford Cardinal sports, as well as news, university events, and community affairs programming," says Ms. Kathryn Todd, General Manager of KZSU. "We invite all our listeners and broadcasting alumni to tune in and celebrate our 60th Anniversary. I am truly excited to celebrate six decades of KZSU." KZSU's long-time Chief Engineer, Mr. Mark Lawrence, agrees. "This marathon is a journey down memory lane. We began with a lowly carrier-current AM signal fed into the power lines of Stanford dormitories. We have managed to build a 500-watt FM station with Internet broadcasting capabilities and emergency radio communications infrastructure. Most of this is funded annually by the students of Stanford University and we are very grateful for their support." KZSU's FM coverage now extends across much of the Bay Area, at 90.1FM on the radio dial. Internet streaming of KZSU programming can be heard at http://kzsulive.stanford.edu.
