Welcome to the "Nubian Roots" home page. Nubian Roots is the name of the "jazz" show that I host at KZSU Stanford. Right now it's on Saturdays from 9pm to 12pm PST but that's subject to change next quarter. Check this page for quarterly time changes.

The name "Nubian Roots" was chosen because it reflects the kind of music that I play. One of my favorite artists is Sun Ra. He has a recording out called "The Nubians of Plutonia". When I first heard him, his words and music had a lasting effect on how I viewed the world. Another group that I attribute with influencing my views is Brand Nubian. The one thing these artists have in common is the quest for presenting music that reflects their existence in this crazy world. The name Nubian Roots was chosen because I wanted to present music that is based on every day experiences. Music that has feeling, adventure, hope, love along with lots of creativity and culture. I play artists such as Andrew Hill, Geri Allen, Steve Coleman, Vijay Iyer, and past greats such as John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy and Charles Mingus .
